Dr. Les Carter is a seasoned therapist with a distinguished career focused on helping individuals navigate emotional and relational challenges. Inspired by his father, an Army chaplain who later specialized in prison chaplaincy and mental health, Dr. Carter witnessed firsthand the impact of counseling on families needing psychological support. This background, combined with an academic path that began with a B.A. in Psychology from Baylor University, followed by a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Clinical Counseling from the University of North Texas, cemented his dedication to psychotherapy.

Dr. Carter joined the renowned Minirth-Meier Clinic in Dallas, Texas, where he spent 25 years specializing in anger management and counseling for older adolescents and adults. Here, he conducted hundreds of workshops, authored over twenty books—including The Anger Workbook, which sold over 500,000 copies—and participated in approximately 3,000 radio broadcasts. His books have been translated into ten languages and have reached millions worldwide.

In 2005, Dr. Carter co-founded the Southlake Psychiatric and Counseling Center in Texas, where he logged more than 65,000 counseling sessions. Known for his compassionate yet firm approach, he gravitated toward complex cases, seeing them as opportunities for meaningful therapeutic growth.

In 2018, Dr. Carter launched the Surviving Narcissism project, which includes two popular YouTube channels—Surviving Narcissism and Dr. Les Carter—amassing over 85 million views. His focus on narcissism grew from a realization that control issues, self-absorption, and lack of empathy often underpin many interpersonal struggles. Through online courses, webinars, and podcasts, he now helps people worldwide understand the impact of narcissism and find pathways to healthier, more balanced relationships. His mission is clear: to demystify narcissism's influence on relationships and offer practical steps toward positive change.
